Today we accompanied 2 clients to complete a trade (business) visa, also called M visa, extension interview in Yiwu, and we would like to summarize the actual process and key details for foreign traders and buyers currently staying in China.

📍 Interview Location

The interview and application process was handled at the Yiwu International Trade Service Center / Exit-Entry Administration Office.

We had:

One appointment in the morning
One appointment in the afternoon

The basic appointment and registration procedures are still generally the same as previously shared.

Step-by-Step Process for Trade Visa Extension

1️⃣ First Step: Get an “A Number” for Photo Registration

After arriving at the service center, the first thing you need to do is:

✅ Take a queue number beginning with “A”

This number is mainly used for:

Photo taking
Facial information collection

📸 Should You Bring Your Own Photo?

You may bring your own printed visa photo.

However, even if you already have a photo, the office will still require:

An electronic photo
Facial data collection on-site

The on-site photo service is:

Fast and convenient
Costs around 20 RMB

After taking the photo, you will receive:

A barcode linked to your visa extension application

✅ Recommendation

It is usually easier to simply take the photo directly at the visa center on the same day instead of preparing photos elsewhere.

2️⃣ Fill Out the Application Form

After the photo process, you need to complete the visa extension application form.

The form mainly includes:

Your personal information
Reason for extending your visa
Current stay details in China

You will then:

3️⃣ Get a “B Number” for Document Pre-Review

Attach your photo
Attach the barcode received from the photo center

Once your photo and application form are completed:

✅ Take another queue number beginning with “B”

This queue is for:

Document pre-review

Currently, the pre-review is mainly handled at:

Window No. 4
Window No. 5

Documents Required for Pre-Review

You should prepare the following materials:

✅ Required Documents

Completed application form with photo
Passport copy
Recent China entry/exit record copy
Original invitation letter from the inviting company
Copy of the inviting company’s Yiwu immigration registration certificate
Original passport

⚠️ Important Note

Except for the invitation letter (which should be original), most other documents can usually be copies.

4️⃣ Final Interview Queue

After the pre-review is approved:

Staff will issue another queue number
This queue is for the final interview

Currently, the final interview is mainly conducted at:

✅ Counter No. 7

This is the most important part of the process.

5️⃣ Prepare Trade Evidence Carefully

Before going to the final interview, you should prepare proof that you are genuinely conducting business in Yiwu.Recommended Trade Evidence

Prepare:

2–3 orders or contracts
Preferably larger transactions
Cases with longer communication history

It is very helpful if the documents also include:

6️⃣ What the Visa Officer Mainly Checks

Payment records
Bank transfers
Cash payment proof
Shipment or order follow-up records

During the interview, the visa officer focuses heavily on:

✅ Whether you are genuinely conducting trade/business activities in Yiwu.

The most important evidence is often:

WeChat chat history with suppliers
Order discussions
Payment communication
Shipping follow-up conversations

Usually, the officer will:

Ask to see your phone directly
Compare chat records with contracts/orders

They mainly want to verify:

When the business relationship started
Whether transactions are real
Whether actual purchasing activity exists

7️⃣ Extension Period: Why 30 Days Matters

For many first-time extensions:

✅ The maximum initial extension is often 30 days

It is recommended to try to obtain the full 30-day extension if possible.

Why?

Because a successful 30-day extension may help create:

A stronger immigration record
Better chances for longer future extensions

Future extensions may potentially reach:

3 months
6 months

However, if the first extension is shorter or problematic, future applications may become more difficult.

8️⃣ After Approval: Passport Collection Process

If your extension is approved:

Your passport will remain with the immigration department
A new visa will be produced and attached to the passport

⏳ Processing Time

Usually:

Around 1 week

You will later return to collect your passport from another designated counter.

9️⃣ Temporary Identity Certificate

While your passport is being processed, you will receive:

✅ A temporary identity certificate

This document can generally be used within China for:

Travel
Hotel check-in
Domestic transportation
Daily identification needs

It functions as a temporary replacement for your passport during processing.
