Sourcing Motorcycle Parts in Yiwu China (Day 3): Learning & Improving.

Hi everyone,

My name is Nuno Castro. I’m Colombian-Portuguese and have spent most of my life here in China.

Today, I’d like to keep sharing a little about my work and give you a glimpse into what a typical day of sourcing in Yiwu can look like.

Today marked our third day working with our Brazilian clients to source motorcycle parts, and we continued helping them move forward with their sourcing and purchasing process here in China.

My team and I spent the day searching for factories that our clients could potentially visit during their remaining time in China. Unfortunately, for one of the products they were interested in, we found that the most suitable factories were located in Guangdong, which is quite far from Yiwu.

Since our client is leaving China in just two days, traveling that far to visit the factories and see the production process first hand was unfortunately not practical.

Although we were not able to arrange every factory visit we initially hoped for, today provided us with something equally valuable: an opportunity to learn and improve as a team.

We encountered a few small challenges throughout the day that reminded us of the importance of being as specific and clear as possible when communicating internally.

When working with multiple people and handling several different suppliers and client requirements at the same time, even a small misunderstanding can create unnecessary delays.

We also reminded ourselves that there is never a wrong question. If a team member is unsure about a specific requirement, supplier, product, or part of the process, it is always better to stop and ask for clarification rather than make an assumption.

At the end of the day, we took the last hour to sit down together as a team and reflect on everything that happened. We discussed what went well, what could have been handled better, and how we can improve our workflow and communication moving forward.

The mistakes we encountered today were very minor, but we believe that continuous improvement comes from paying attention to the small things. Every day gives us an opportunity to learn something new and make our processes better.

For us, providing a good service is not only about achieving the client's goals today. It is also about constantly improving ourselves so that we can provide an even better experience for the clients we work with tomorrow.
