How to Ship Jewelry LCL to Developed Countries from Yiwu?

Chinese government unveils a fresh policy – all fashion jewelry must be inspected before shipping out from 1st Jan, 2011.

This means all fashion jewelry must be inspected before customs declaration. If customs find any jewelries shipping out without inspection, the shipper must pay a heavy penalty.



However, so far we haven’t got any news that someone successfully obtained the inspection certificate for developed countries like US, UK, France, Germany… mainly because:

#1 It takes about 20 days to have a piece of jewelry sample inspected.

#2 Very little Yiwu jewelry can pass this inspection because of quality problems.

For many developing countries, it’s easy to get an inspection certificate.



So now one question: how to ship LCL jewelry to developed countries from Yiwu?

We must find a customs that still accept customs declaration without inspection certificates.

Unfortunately, all customs in mainland China all require inspection. So an option is to ship these LCL jewelry to HK and ship out from HK. HK still accepts declaration without inspection certificates.



Disadvantages are obvious:

#1 Cost: Shipping from Yiwu to HK is costly. The cargo has to shipped to Shenzhen first, then ship to HK from Shenzhen. Ocean freight for shipping out from HK port is much higher than shipping out from Ningbo port.

#2 Safety: this long journey from Yiwu to Shenzhen, then from Shenzhen to HK can make the cartons very soft and cause lots of damages.

#3 Time: it usually takes at least one week to ship from Yiwu to HK.

So now there still aren't any right solutions for this situation. What to do? We’ll keep this situation updated here once any solutions are out.
